Of course, at my age, I remember the sultry gorgeous star with those incredible amethyst eyes.

But the first time I saw her was in perhaps my favorite of her roles - National Velvet.

We mourn her passing, but how great that she was here.
My name is Mary Z. John and I live in Tennessee. We've been retired since 1991, and have a passion for travel and photography. I paint, do needlepoint and knit, read, work word puzzles. John is a rower and loves to read and work word puzzles, too.

You've got it right. She was the epitome of movie star, but her life was so much more than that. She was the first woman of whom I understood the description "beautiful." But she'll be remembered as much for her good works, which will -- I hope -- lead others to emulate her.
