Dalton Roberts, Philosopher

I had fun this morning. I was one of the jurors for our photo club’s annual contest for high school students. The club awards prizes, and the winners are sent on to a national contest with the Photographic Society of America. We had a national first prize winner last year. There are three jurors for the contest. For the last few years, they’ve been a photographer for the newspaper, a gallery owner, and me (artist & photographer). Some of the photos have been really good - and that was certainly the case this year. It’s great to see the youngsters using their creativity.

It was spitting rain this morning, but never more than a few drops. John got started on some of the yard work. The grass still isn’t up enough to think about mowing yet. It’s not my thing, anyway - I definitely don’t do stuff in the yard. The trees have been gorgeous, and now the spent pear blossoms are almost like snow - flying everywhere. And it’s obvious from all the sneezing, snuffling, and blowing that the spring allergy season is well under way.

DALTON ROBERTS is one of our favorite philosophers. I’ve quoted him here before. His Sunday Journal entry for today is one of those days.

Today’s photo was taken while we were waiting to enter a lock on the Erie Canal.
