My name is Mary Z. John and I live in Tennessee. We've been retired since 1991, and have a passion for travel and photography. I paint, do needlepoint and knit, read, work word puzzles. John is a rower and loves to read and work word puzzles, too.

Somewhere -- somehow -- we learned to question. You should have heard a nine-year-old and a twelve-year-old debating some of these same questions.
I think the atmosphere of "this is what I believe and why I believe it, but you are not compelled to agree" carried over into the next generation.
This makes me sad, remembering how our opinions were squelched if they differed from my father's. my sister learned to fight for her ideas. I learned how to shut up and never question.
