Wislawa Szymborska, the Polish Nobel laureate for poetry died last week.
I’d never heard of her and, I confess, know very little about poetry in general, and don’t read much poetry. My cousin, Sue Wheeler has several books of poetry on sale at Amazon. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed her poetry.
Wislawa Symborska’s poetry was quoted in this week’s Newsweek. I can understand why she was awarded a Nobel Prize, and why she is beloved in Poland.
I prefer the earth in civvies.
I prefer conquered to conquering countries.
I prefer having some reservations/
I prefer the hell of chaos to the hell of order.
I prefer Grimms’ fairy tales to the newspapers’ front pages.
